125 Fun Questions for Couples

Not everything has to be a conversation about the relationship. Sometimes you are in a car for four hours, or waiting for a table, or lying on the sofa on a Sunday with no intention of doing anything meaningful, and what you want is questions that are simply fun to answer.

They produce more honest answers than the serious ones, which is counterintuitive and consistently true.

A question about the correct way to load a dishwasher gets a real answer because there is nothing at stake in giving one. A question about whether you feel close gets a considered answer, and considered answers are shaped — by what the other person wants to hear, by what the answer implies, by how the last version of this conversation went.

So the fun list is not a lesser version of the deep list. It is the version that works when neither of you has the energy to be careful, which is most evenings.
